Decided to do this track after a few years and take a group for Second Sundays. We started the loop with Kura track where you follow a nice stream for about half of the track, until you hit the hill and you start going up. Just as your quads are about to give in it flattens out. But only for a minute and then you go up and up and up. Prepare to go up some more until you get to the end of Kura. At the end of Kura you exit onto Whatipu Road and begin Omanawanui track. This track is a treat for your eyes. Yes, you'll still be going up along most of the way, but once you get to the ridges it'll all be worth it. You'll be greeted by some amazing views out to the sea as you walk the majority of Omanawanui. There are a few nice spots to stop for some lunch here as you gaze out into the never ending ocean. Take some time to go out to the lookout towards the end of the track, it's well sign posted so you wont miss it. What goes up, must come down. Watch your step on the way down as it's quite steep and rocky. This is definitely one of my favourite walks to do so far. There's just something about the views at the top! The only down side is there isn't a watering hole during the walk. But the beach is near by (10 min walk) and along the way there is a swimming hole to dive into to get all the sand off before you head back home.
