If you're ever looking for the waterfalls out by Piha this is where you want to go. There is plenty of parking at the end of Glenesk Rd, along with some toilets and picnic benches. The walk to the falls is a short 30minutes in and is suitable for the whole family. Be aware there will be plenty of wasps out during the warmer months, they will generally leave you alone unless they get stuck in the tongue of your shoe and attack you before you foot begins to swell up as you race back to safety. But other than that you should be fine. At the base of the waterfall you can jump in the waterhole for a dip or head up stream for a few more secluded waterholes. The climb up is bit of a hike up, be prepared for your thighs to burn as you trek upwards. But the view from the top is spectacular and is worth the walk up. There's a stream up here with plenty of water holes, maybe just don't go swim in one of the waterholes closer to the edge as it's a long way down. Once you've soaked in the beauty of this place, its time to head back down the way you came. The time getting back to the car seems like a fraction of the time it took to get up and you'll be back before you know it.
