After over indulging on Christmas Day I felt the need for a bit of an adventure on Boxing Day. I called up some friends and knowing J's Kids would be coming along I thought it'd be safe to do the Waitakere Dam walk and add on the Tramline to make it a worthwhile walk for everyone. The walk is paved all the way down to the dam, an easy walk down. Just remember you'll be coming up on the way back. There's a lil short cut through Cascade View Tk which also allows you to go bush for a few minutes and get off the hot paved road. As you exit the track you're just around the corner from the beautiful dam. Take in the view and head down the stairs to the bottom of the damn for some great views out into the Waitaks. Head back up and head down towards the Tramline. This is a nice flat walk along the tramline, you'll go through a tunnel and can have a picnic at the Picnic Flats. Walk right to the end. Anderson track veers off to the left at the end of Tramline, don't be tempted to do this if you've got young ones as its not the easiest and is quite steep and long. I'd suggest heading back the way you came if you're with little ones. My app had a breakdown during this walk so I tracked the distance on trace my walk and guessed the time from our start and finish times. We stopped about 4-5 times for snacks and to take in some views. Definitely a good one for the whole family, just be ready for the walk back up to the car!
