Turmeric has long been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory in both the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine. It is especially known for its benefits to digestion, immune function, liver health and even possible protection from cancer.
Turmeric has a peppery, warm and bitter flavor and a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger, and while it is best known as one of the ingredients used to make curry, it also helped me make this delicous golden beverage!
Turmeric Tea aka Golden Milk
3/4 cup coconut milk (or any milk)
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons grated fresh turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Pinch of pepper (white is better)
1/4 teaspoon palm sugar
Place all the ingredients in a pot, bring to the boil and let simmer for approx 15min which will allow the colour to come out and the milk to reduce to a cup. Pour through a strainer into a cup and stir in Palm sugar to taste (honey or your preferred sweetner will also work). Enjoy this warm!
