What a weekend! Saturday 28th October 2016. A night I will never forget. Despite a number of setbacks along the way and my doctor advising me not to fight the Friday before the fight due to my heart being inflammed (sorry Doc), I jumped in the ring and came home with a win. Maybe not the smartest thing I've ever done. But, hey I didn't die!
There a so many people I would like to acknowledge and thank for being there for me and having my back through my training this year.
Firstly I want to congratulate my opponent Briar Fleming for stepping into that ring with me on the night and putting up a good fight. You didn't back down for a second and had me on my toes for the entirity of the rounds. I hope you enjoyed the night and the experience.
To my training partner Becks, I wasn't going to agree to do this fight without you and was pleased when you too agreed to do it again this year. Despite having to pull out a month before the fight you stuck it out with me at training sessions and kept my head in the game when all I wanted to do was give in and quit. Thank you for getting me on that treadmil and running my ass off, encouraging me at trainings and giving me a good hit or two at sparring so when it came to the fight no punch could phase me. You have been such a big part of this journey including being in my corner on the night and I can not thank you enough for being there and believing in me!
To my trainer Rod MacSwain, thank you for killing me at every training session and teaching me that overhand hook. I lost count of how many times I used it that night, it worked just as you said it would. I can not thank you enough for all that you have done for me to get me ready for my fight for the second year in a row. Hope I did you proud!
Daniella Smith, thanks for taking me on in the last few weeks to refine my combos and remind me that I do have what it takes. Self doubt got the best of me as I had to go through this journey alone this year. You knew exactly what to do and say to make me believe in myself again.
Thank you to all my sparring partners for stepping in and helping me out when no one else wanted to! Chelsea, Justine, Becks and Emma. I learnt something from each of you and it showed on the night. Chelsea you're the fittest person I've ever had to spar and if I could keep up with you I knew I would have the gas to get me through the fight .Justine, despite you not training for almost a year your punches are faster than light and taught me to get the hell out of the way just as fast. Becks, you have the most powerful punches even when you're friendly sparring, if I can take your hits nothing was going to phase me on the ring that night. Emma, your long reach helped me develop my overhand as it was then only move that worked to move in close to you! And the rest of the girls who came along to a session and helped me through my rounds at both City Boxing and Ludus Magnus. Thanks for helping beat me up and being okay with taking a few too.
Deach and Lisa you two are amazing and I'm proud to have represented Discipline Performance Gym again this year. Thank you for all you do for us, your constant motivation and support is unbelievable! Thanks to City Boxing and Ludus Magnus for your love through my training and allowing me to utilise your trainers and gym which has been my home for the past 3 months!
A big ups to the rest of my team from the Blue Corner you guys were on fire in the ring! Been such an awesome journey getting to know you all and I hope we can keep that fire burning!
And finally to all my supporters! Thank you sooo much for all those that came along to support me on the night. . Everything was a bit blurry but I felt so much love in that stadium and it was the greatest feeling knowing you were all there for me! Also, thank you to everyone for all the kind words and messages leading up to the fight as well as post fight. I hope I did you all proud.
Just another health and fitness professional putting in their 2 cents. 2 cents may be all you need one day.
